I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If water is still leaking, turn off the water at the nearest valve and then at the mains valve outside. If you cannot locate the water main isolation valve or a tap to the appliance, then turn on all the cold taps inside and out to help depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

While you wait for our plumber to arrive, begin mopping up any water, position a bucket to catch drips, and remove significant things from the area. If the house water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
